Never, ever again!

Two cards that I have finished off this weekend.

This image has been coloured with Copics and then finished off with H2Os for the hair and water. I love the effect it gave on the hair but as I hadn’t embossed the image prior to colouring, the H2Os washed out the seaweed behind the girl. I used a black pen to go over it and try and bring it back to life, but I still wasn’t overly happy with it. In the end I clear embossed the whole image to hide and boo-boos. The sparkle of the H2os still shines through, but I can’t capture in on film.

Ink: Copic markers, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Xpress Graphx Blender Card, Bazzill, Prima Paisley Road 6×6 pad
EmbellishmentsPearls, roses

My second card is the never, ever again card! I love the paper tole effect of layering images, but the endless colouring and cutting I can do without. Then I decided to be clever and sew around the die -cut – never again! Give me a good old fashioned square anytime!

You scream, I scream…

A few weeks ago I took delivery of this little beauty:

It’s Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker and I got it from Kitchenware Direct. It does come in other colours too, but I liked the yellow. This is the 2nd time I have ordered from them. The first time was for my Kitchenaid Food Processor. Both times have been hassle free with quick delivery – I highly recommend them, but hold no responsibility for any future credit card bills!

I also got an icecream scoop. In the past I have always wondered what the big deal is with icecream scoops, as a dessert spoon will suffice, right? Wrong! I love my new icecream scoop. Of course, I got the yellow one to match the maker.

Well we have since made a few batches of icecream – coconut ice, coconut raspberry, chocolate, coconut raspberry (again) and now mango.

I’m no food stylist, but had to pop in a dodgy pic of the mango icecream.

Next on our list to try is crunchy peanut butter icecream with hot fudge sauce…

No words needed…

A Delight-ful discovery.

Friday nights in our house is homemade pizza and movie night. Each week one member of the family picks a movie – whether it be a new release or one from the deep, dark depths of the dvd cupboard. After pizza has been eaten, the lights are turned out and the children have potato chips and a chocolate bar.

Anyway, this week I had a Fry’s Turkish Delight bar. In the past we have carefully studied the ingredients and declared them not gluten free and therefore, off-limits to Mary. But for some reason the other night I read the ingredients list again, and I couldn’t find any gluten derived ingredients in it! A quick check of the Cadbury website stated that Fry’s Turkish Delight did indeed contain gluten.

So I fired off a quick email to ask for clarification.

On Monday morning at 9am I got a return email asking me to phone them to discuss it.

The end result being that a Fry’s Turkish Delight made in New Zealand is gluten free. But, buy one made in Australia and you will get wheat starch in it. They couldn’t tell me why we had NZ made bars here at the moment as apparently we normally don’t. I’m guessing the Kiwis may not appreciate them and just have too many to eat at the moment, lol.

We’ve since found a small stash of NZ made bars and have them tucked away for Friday night feasts for Mary to indulge while stocks last.

Jingle all the way

by Philippa | 2 Comments

I found some little jingly bells stashed away in a drawer last night. One was perfect to add to this card.

Stamps: Wee & Stocking, Amy R Spring Sentiments,
Ink: Copic markers, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Xpress Graphx Blender Card, Bazzill, patterned paper scraps – I think Pink Paislee & Basic Grey
Embellishments: Maraschino Baker’s Twine, jingly bell, plus some odds and ends from my desk.

Two little lovebirds

I love the way this card turned out. I love this Crate Paper too – I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it.

Stamps: Winter Love Birds, Amy R Spring Sentiments,
Ink: Copic markers, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Xpress Graphx Blender Card, Bazzill, Crate Paper Restoration 6×6 pad
Embellishments: Off white seam binding (coloured with Copics), Lemon Drop Baker’s Twine

I also used an old Hero Arts background stamp around the birds. I sponged with Old Paper Distress Ink and then stamped over the top with the same ink.

I’m not overly happy with their tummies, but it will do…

Two more sleeps!

Yes, this afternoon has been a bit of a trial with ‘bored’ children. Back to school on Monday – thank goodness!

Anyway, here is a card that I finished off the other night. I used Nic’s dirty jeans Copic colouring combo.

Stamps: Willow with Umbrella, Amy R Spring Sentiments
Ink: Copic markers, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Xpress Graphx Blender Card, Bazzill, Prima Paisley Road 6×6 pad
Embellishments: Purple Pumpkin button, ribbon, bling.

So proud

by Philippa | 2 Comments

In the lead up to the school holidays I started stocking up on a few craft ideas to keep the kids entertained. I stocked up on a few little quilling kits to make animals but it turned out to be a little too hard to follow the instructions. Luckily I had also bought some basic packs of quilling paper. Mary loved it! She took off and started designing her own animals. It looked so good that we popped out to the stores yesterday to find a frame to pop it in. This now sits proudly on her bookshelf.

The only help she had from me was the cutting of the sky and tearing of the grass. Everything else is her own ideas and designs. I’m one proud mumma.

She’s now started on her next project which is three dimensional and completely inspired by this amazing quilled project.

Miss Anya

I’ve coloured in Miss Anya a few times now. The first set of cards that I made have been sent off to a magazine for future publishing. But I had a spare stamped image on my desk and started colouring again.

I stamped the bench onto woodgrain paper and then coloured over it with Copics. The chipboard has also been coloured with Copics.

Stamps: TGF Miss Anya Love, Whiff of Joy Wooden Bench.
Ink: Copic markers, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Xpress Graphx Blender Card, Bazzill, Crate Paper Restoration 6×6 Pad
Embellishments: SRM Stickers, Seam Binding, Collections chipboard branches, paper rose, Flourish with a Bling pearls.
Tools: EK Success punch

Please indulge me

George has been a part of our household for a few weeks now and has been at the vet every week since! Either for vaccinations, accident or illness.

The first accident was a playful puppy pulling on the passionfruit vine which in turn pulled down an extremely heavy iron gate. I watched it happen in slow motion – as you do. Luckily he ran and it only clipped the back of his leg. I hate to think what would have happened if it had landed on his back. A quick check at the vet and he was declared fit and okay. The gate has now been tied securely to the fence.

The next trip to the vet (besides for vaccinations) was for a nasty cough. I thought he had a furball, or perhaps a splinter or piece of bone in his throat, but noooooo…. Somehow our new puppy who hasn’t left our backyard except to go to the vet had contracted Kennel Cough! So a bagful of antibiotics and medicine, plus nearly remortgaging the house we now have a dog on the mend.

I haven’t taken a lot of photos of him, but the ones that I do take always seem to be of him sleeping. He enjoys sleeping on his back. I’ve cropped this one down to protect his modesty (and the delicate eyes of the public), and labelled it a bit so you can actually see what bits are where, lol.

Note that he is sort of sleeping upright here as the bed has sides to it which is where his head is resting. He was sound asleep – out like a light. The flash and my giggling did not stir him at all.

Meet George – the upside down dog.
