I thought I would show you how I made these rustic paper roses today.
Step 1: cut a 1″ strip from patterned paper.
Step 2: fold lengthwise twice, or roll it up like shown
Step3 3: twist in opposite directions from each end so you end up with a spiral like below.

This is the double edged doily lace trim, cutting a 1 inch paper lace ribbon. Nice!
