Adding texture
Adding texture and dimension to my scrapping layouts is something I love doing and today I am going to share with you some of my favorite techniques that I have put together on the one layout.
I love some of the shaped papers that are out at the moment and most times it isn’t for the paper but the shape. I have stash of both paper and cardboard templates so that I can transform my papers and that is where I started with the double sided Scribble Scrabble papers in my kit this month.
Step 1
Trace around your paper/template and cut out
Step 2
Trim about two inches of top and bottom and choose which side of the paper will face up.
Step 3
Using distress inks and a sponging block, ink edges of the three pieces.
Step 4
Adhere the two cut of strips to the top and bottom of your layout.
Step 5
Cut two 1.5 by 12 inch and 2 1.5 by 3 inch strips of paper. Join to make two 15 inch strips. Pleat, unfold and ink.
Step 6
Apply DST along the top of the reverse of the third piece of paper. Using one of the strips, stick to either side of the layout (ends only) so half the ruffle shows over edge of paper and then randomly bunch and stick rest of strip. Repeat for the bottom and add to layout.
Step 7
Apply masking tape in strips over an area of the layout (bumpy) then swipe with paint.
Step 8
Now that the base of my layout was done it was time to add the photos, embellies and title.
I added some of Nic’s flowers she posted last week along with some of my handmade vines. Here is a close up of the paint/masking tape background. When the paint dries it leaves a crackle effect over the tape.
Hope you all have fun playing with paint and tape if you decide to give it a try.
