Copic Colouring – Adding Backgrounds
A final couple of ideas for adding backgrounds to your stamping projects.
Create a simple gravel/pebble path for your character by drawing in a series of dots in a similar way to the technique used to make the bush. Use the very tip of your marker to form perfect circular dots in a random layout underneath her feet. I have started with C1, but you could use browns too.
Add your second colour (C3) again, quite randomly, fill in some gaps.
When you incorporate the third colour (C5) try to create smaller dots by moving quickly and appying less pressure. Concentrate your darkest colour in the areas where shadow forms, under the feet.
Finally, blend it together roughly by finishing with big blender pen dots.
Another nice idea for a background is to create an indoor scene. This can be very easily done with your masking film and a background stamp.
Mask your character first, then apply a thin strip of masking film across her ankles. Make it about 1cm thick – this will form the skirting board.
Use a light coloured marker (I used BG10) to colour above your skirting board strip. This will become the wallpaper. Choose a complimentary or contrasting colour and stamp your background stamp straight over the top. Remember to use your copics first and stamp over the top, not the other way around.
Do the same below the ‘skirting board’ This time I used E31 – this will form your carpet.
Peel your masks off, both the character mask and the skirting board strip, then use your multiliner to ruler in a defining line and add some C1 shadows and your character now appears to be inside!
