Step by step – outside the die-cut

I have an extra special step by step for you today as it uses two brand new Kraftin’ Kimmie images. These will be for sale in the store tomorrow. The first image is Lily Lemon, but of course I have renamed her Lily Lime! The second image is Stripes the Zebra – isn’t he simply adorable?

So on to my tutorial…

After colouring an image I normally like to cut them out with a Spellbinders Die, but sometimes the ones that are big enough to contain the image are a little too big. If I used those dies then there would be too much space around the image. So if you cut your image and let a few bits ‘hang out’, then you get a little less empty space.

Let me show you how.

1. Colour your image, of course. On this image I have marked a few pencil marks around the areas that I will trim.

2. Here I have cut around the image that will ‘hang out’ of the die cut. See how I have popped them over the top of the die so they won’t get cut when I put it through my Big Shot? I have used Spellbinders Labels Eight.

3. Here is what I end up with.

This is how she looks on a card:

I used various papers sitting around on my desk. Most were from the Prima Paisley Road 6×6 pad.

I’ll take you through another one. This time I’ll cut in further so that more of the image is off the die-cut. Plus I just want to show off this gorgeous stamp. How can you resist?

1. Colour your image.

2. Find a die that works.

3. Mark where you need to cut.

4. Now you will need to cut in further than the die, but if you cut along the image lines they won’t be noticeable later on. Run it through your die cut machine.

5. Oh dear – I must have forgotten to take a photo of the next step! Well you can see how he looks on the card here:

I’ve used G45 papers and Spellbinders Lacey Circles Die. I masked off Stripes and sponged the background with Distress Ink and then over stamped with a text stamp. I also stamped an additional butterfly and cut it out to add over the top for a little bit more dimension.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial. Check the store out tomorrow for the new Kraftin’ Kimmie stamps. I’ll tell you that they are all ‘berry’ nice!

this is a swell idea, I’ve only tried it once, but only on a bit of a tail on a mermaid, never to the extent you have here, so I will definitely have to keep my eyes and mind open when I have something that doesn’t fit!!!
