Diorama card
I love to give cards that are almost like a mini gift themselves. That is what a diorama card is. It is a 3D card that looks impressive, but really isn’t too complicated to make.
There are a few steps in making this type of card, but I am sure you will love the end result.
The best thing about this 3D card is that it can be folded down to a relatively flat surface so it can be sent through the mail.
This card is made up of three sections, the front cover, the center and the back cover.
Step 1: For the front cover cut a piece of paper 23cm x 15cm. Using the same dimensions cut your back cover.
Step 2: For the middle layer cut a piece of paper 19cm x 15cm.
Step 3: Note- you don’t need a Metric Scor-Pal for the next step, but it makes life easier.
Align your front cover on the Scor-Pal with the long edge across the top. Score at 4cm and 19cm. Repeat this with the back cover.
Step 4: Align the centre paper on the Scor-pal with the long edge across the top. Score at 2cm and 17cm.
Step 5: Take the second largest Spellbinders Labels Eight die and centre it onto the reverse side of your front cover. I drew some faint guideline to help me center it. Hold the die in place with some low tack tape (this is optional but I find it very handy).
Run it through your cutting machine and remove the cut out piece.
We don’t use these cut out papers, so put them somewhere safe to use for another project.
Step 6: Repeat the previous step, this time using the centre paper and the third largest Spellbinders Labels Eight die.
Step7: Folding along the previously made score lines, fold the edges of the front cover down, do the same for the centre. Fold the back cover edges up.
Step 8: Colour a stamped image and cut it out using the third largest Labels Eight die. This image uses the gorgeous ching-chou kuik Dragonflies from Sweet Pea Stamps. If you don’t want to use a coloured image, this could be replaced with a sentiment.
Step 9: Centre the image onto the back cover (lay the centre paper over it to ensure correct placement). Adhere in place.
Step 10: Run two strips of double sides tape along the edge of the center paper.
Aligning folds and edges, adhere to the back cover.
Your card should look something like this from the top.
Step 11: Place strips of double sided tape along the back of the front cover.
Adhere over the top of the card.
Step 12: That is the base of the card complete.
You can leave it this way if you like, or you could further embellish it.
I used each of the layers to add some leaves with the Spellbinders Foliage die.
I really hope you enjoyed todays tutorial, if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment and I will answer them as quickly as I can.
