Movers & Shapers with or without the Base Tray?

You might remember my post from the other day with several cards using the Tim Holtz Butterflies Die. Since then, I’ve had quite a few emails about whether the dies will work in a Cuttlebug or not. The answer is a resounding yes! I found this fabulous blog post that shows a few tips and techniques for using it in the Cuttlebug.

I only have a Big Shot, so today I am going to show you how I use it with the Base Tray and also, how it will work without the Base Tray. I do highly recommend the Tray – it holds the die in place beautifully and you get a very nice clean cut. But if you desperately need to use dies that you have bought without realising you need the Tray, then you can do it. We will have more of the Trays arriving in early July.

So, let’s put the die through the Big Shot with the Base Tray.
You will need two Big Shot cutting plates, Base Tray, Die and cardstock. Your sandwich from the bottom is Cutting Pad, Base Tray, Die, Cardstock, Cutting Pad.
Don’t you just love my well used Cutting Pad?

Run the sandwich through the Big Shot.

Look what comes out the other side – perfect!

Now if you don’t have a Base Tray, this is the sandwich that you will need from the bottom:
1.2mm chipboard, two Cutting Pads, Die, Cardstock, one Cutting Pad.
The Big Shot does only come with two cutting pads, but you can buy replacements here.

Run your sandwich through the Big Shot.

This is what comes out the other side – still perfect!

I still do recommend the purchase of a Base Tray as the dies are magnetised and will hold on the metal Base Tray very securely. This helps when you want to use the dies on cardfronts or in perfectly placed positions. But in the interim, you can still play. We have a few other dies in stock here, with more on the way.

Finally, here are two more of my butterfly cards.

I really do love this die. I’ve even got another card half finished on my desk – I’ll show that another day.
