A Christmas ornament using Cheery Lynn Dies
Christmas Crafting (especially with kids) is one of the joys of this time of year. There are so many fun things to make, from cards and gift wrappings, to personal presents and decorations.
Today I am using one of the gorgeous Cheery Lynn Doily Dies to create a simple tree ornament. These dies are so popular that they are currently out of stock, but will be back in the store mid-December so email Philippa if you would like to have one put aside for you!
You will need Christmas Papers (I have used papers from the November Half Tart which is sold out, but the December Full Tart would be lovely!) and a Cheery Lynn Doily Die (you will also need a glue stick, craft glue and a length of twine)
Cut 8 doilies (4 pictured, but you will need 8 ) from your patterned paper.
Carefully examine the pattern of the doily’s scalloped edge to determine where to fold in half to get a perfect match. Fold your doilies with the ‘right’ sides in.
Using a glue stick (or craft glue and a foam brush?) apply a small amount of adhesive to one half of one ‘wrong’ side.
Align the edges and holes with another ‘wrong’ side and press together. You may find you need to hold for a little bit until it ‘takes’ and be sure to wipe off the excess glue that oozes out of the holes or you will end up gluing all your ‘right’ sides together too! Here are 2 pieces attached.
Continue to add each doily in the same way. Here it is with 4 doilies attached.
Almost done.
Before you join the last piece to the first piece, and complete the shape, open it up and apply a ribbon of craft glue along the inside ‘spine’ and insert a length of twine or ribbon, looped at the top as shown.
Glue your final piece to your first piece to close up the sphere and hang it on your tree!
If you’d like to add more embellishing, a ribbon bow tied around the top would look gorgeous!
