Many, many years ago I was inspired by a post on 2peas. The scrapbooker (and I’m pretty sure she was Australian) had made a mini book of funny things that her family said. I can’t link you to it as the old link I had is now broken.

Anyway, I loved the idea and have been making 6×6 pages for our family’s giggle book ever since.

They are quick and easy to do. You don’t necessarily need photographs, and you can use up a lot of scraps and leftovers.

The memories that it conjures up are fantastic! My youngest came out with a funny comment the other night so I whipped out the giggle book and made a page. The kids love to read it. I’ll share a few here, but I can’t share others due to possible embarrassment and what he would construe as major humiliation – particularly now my eldest is in highschool.

Today I am showing you a different way to use your Copics. I’m sure everyone has some of those gorgeous silhouette flower stamps tucked away some where. The two I have used here are by Penny Black.

So all you need is a light coloured Distress or Memento ink, your Copics, and a silhouette stamp.

First stamp your image in a light coloured ink. I have used Distress Ink Tattered Rose.
Now colour your image!

Copics used:
For the leaves - YG91, YG95, YG00.
For the flowers – R81, R83, R85, R89.
For the stamens – YR21, YR23.

The far right image below has been highlighted with a grey chalk pencil and a white chalk pencil. I love these and think they add some great dimension. Do make sure you have completely finished using your Copics before using the chalk pencils. Mine are by Faber-Castell.

I have now cut out my image. You could also cut out the image using Spellbinders Dies like I have done in one of the sample cards below. Once the image has been cut out, sponge around it all with Distress Ink Old Paper.  It doesn’t matter if you get some on the image itself.

Then use Distress Ink Walnut Stain and your favourite background stamp and stamp around the outer edge. Sponge again using the Walnut Stain, but just on the very edges, this time.

Plus a couple of other samples. These two have had their sentiments stamped using Copic pens – colour the sentiment stamp with your Copic pen then use your Copic Blender pen to saturate the vellum scrap and stamp on top while it is still wet. The blender will reactivate the Copic ink on your stamp. Perfect for getting your sentiment just the right colour!

I’ve used a stamp by Magenta called Flowers and quickly coloured it with pencils. I then used a Cheery Lynn die called French Pastry and ran it through my Big Shot with my embossing pads so it embossed the cardstock instead of cutting it.

Now, the obligatory close up of that gorgeous embossing – isn’t it pretty?

How often do you get that feeling where you know you need to do something but you absolutely cannot remember what it was? I’m hanging my head in shame this week as it was my turn to do today’s tutorial but I got so engrossed in doing the company tax return this week that I didn’t do anything! The tax return was pretty important, but I am sighing a huge sigh of relief now that it is over for another 12 months.

But enough of that – you are here for a tutorial and as I don’t have a new one prepared, I thought I would direct you to two of my older ones that I quite like.
