Washi Tape Stationery

by Nicole ~ May 12th, 2012

My girls love stationery so when I saw the cute Lime Tart exclusive Duncan Owl washi set I knew I would make something for Miss 5.

I couldn’t decide on just one thing though so I decorated a bunch of stationery items for her and bundled them up in a gift pack.

There’s A5 writing paper, lined envelopes and gift cards, scribble pad, notebook, a pencil and some ‘stickers’.

Here’s how I lined my envelope.

First I grabbed a scrap of backing paper left over from a large sticker. You could use anything that you will be able to remove the washi from easily. It’s low-tack anyway so paper might be fine, but waxed kitchen paper might work well, or a sheet of acetate.

Lay it over your envelope and mark up around the shape of the flap, around 1cm in from the edges so you don’t cover the envelope’s adhesive. You will have to look very closely here to see my pencil lines.

Cut it out, but leave the bottom half long so it will extend past the opening of the envelope.

Now start to cover it all up with washi. I love how the Duncan set comes with 3 coordinating rolls.

Let your tape overlap the edges and carefully line up the pattern as you go. You can get away with a slight overlap of the strips, but try not to leave a gap.

Now cut off the overhang on the top and sides. You can neaten off the bottom half too but it’s not necessary.

Carefully open up your envelope.

This next bit is a little tricky to explain, but I first peeled back the top part of the washi and then folded back the backing paper and positioned the tape on the envelope then pressed the tape down in place and pulled the backing off from under the bottom.

Finally I reassembled my envelope and added a decorative stripe to the front and did the same on a matching gift card.

But do you know what her favourite part of the whole thing was!? The sheet of ‘stickers’ I made by cutting out little Duncans and sticking them on a piece of that leftover backing paper I used to make my envelope liner template!!!

A few gallery favourites

by Rachael ~ May 10th, 2012

I was scouring the gallery for some inspiration this last weekend.  I’m always amazed at how many ideas I get from other people’s pages!

I do love the tag on this one!

And the wonderful use of the peek-a-boo tear on this one….why don’t I do this more often?  It’s so effective!

Finally,  a boy layout – I love the free feeling it’s been given by adding a bit of hand journalling.

What’s your favourite from the gallery this month?

Handmade from the heart

by Kerryn ~ May 9th, 2012

Are you looking to make something special this Mothers Day?

You could put together a collection of family photos in a CD gift card.

Colleen showed us how to make a gift tube at Christmas.  Wouldn’t this look delicious filled with chocolate!

For a simple but very effective idea how about altering a notebook?

No matter what you may choose to create a handmade gift created from the heart will always be appreciated.
